Inspired by Ireland's wilder landscapes, Peter McSweeney of Douglas, Cork,transitioned from his studies in classical animation to become a landscape painter in oils,steadily honing his craft across years through a quiet and secluded practice, emphasising intensive and patient study to grasp the tactile essenceof the natural world as he works

Biography

Peter McSweeney is a contemporary landscape artist from Douglas ,Cork. McSweeney graduated from Ballyfermot College Dublin in 1999 with a Diploma in Classical Animation. On completion of his studies he returned to Cork City and explored computer graphics before deciding to focus on painting. He took a studio in the Art Hive studio complex on Maccurtain St.  It was during this time that he met Jo Allen, an American artist working in the Hive who introduced him to painting in oils.

Over the decades since McSweeney has continued to explore many aspects of oil painting. He has a profound sympathy with unspoilt wild Irish landscapes, excised of artificial structures and traces. he will make extended observations in remote location, sometimes simply being present, experiencing phenomena whether it is waves crashing against rocks or the vast stillness of a woodlands and fields of meadowsweet rarely seen outside of the NorthWest.                                                   Peter now divides his time as a tutor and painting in his studio in Cootehall, Co Roscommon.
